NYUCC features WTC Free Zone during a Networking Event in NYC -

On the 20th of September 2011, The New York Uruguayan Chamber of Commerce featured the WTC Free Zone during an event that attracted a wide array of individuals from the private and public sector.  Amongst some of the companies that were represented in the event were PricewaterhouseCoopers, Barnes and Noble, Deloitte and J.P. Morgan Chase Bank.

WTC Free Zone is the new project of World Trade Center Montevideo that is characterized as a Free Trade Zone of Services in an exceptional location bothin the region and in the city of Montevideo.  It is a unique proposal that combines all of the advantages of an AAA business complex with the comptetitiveness that results from operating within the regime of a Free Trade Zone of services which grants full tax exemptions.

 

The speakers featured during the event included Honorable Ambassador Carlos Orlando, the General Consul of Uruguay in New York, Mario Tucci, the head consultant for WTC Free Zone, Valentin Bautista, the U.S. representative of WTC Free Zone and Dr. Jorge W. Moreira, the President of NYUCC.  The speakers at the event highlighted that Uruguay offers an optimal environment for the development of any global business projects and activities.

Throughout his presentation, Mr. Tucci explained the many benefits and amenities that this Free Tade Zone has to offer American companies.  Some of these include the accesibility to cutting-edge technology, professsional consultancy services and a well-educated bi-lingual workforce (the country offers a 97% literacy rate), all found in a country that offers high security standards, a sound stable political and institutional system, social stability and low crime rates.

Additional advantages include the exemption of all national taxes, whether existent or to be created in the future, reduced telecommunication costs and free-entry and exit of foreign currency, securities, bonds and precious metals, amonst others.

NYUCC was Present at The General Consulate of Uruguay in New York –

The Presentation of the Center for Economic, Commercial and Cultural Promotion of The General Consulate of Uruguay in New York -

On Thursday, September 22, 2011 the Consul General of Uruguay in New York, Ambassador Carlos Orlando, organized a meeting held in the halls of the Consulate of Uruguay in New York, where he hosted the Vice-President of Uruguay, Danilo Asttori, Foreign Minister Dr. Luis Almagro, the Ambassador of Uruguay to the United Nations, Dr. Jose Luis Cancel, The Ambassador of Uruguay in Washington, DC, Dr. Carlos Gianelli and several other Uruguayan individuals, businessmen and professional traders that have settled in New York.

Amongst the institutions and persons that participated in the event was The New York Uruguayan Chamber of Commerce, Inc., which was represented by its President, Dr. Jorge W. Moreira, Esq and Accountant Lucia Echenique Fossati from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

During the event the General Consul explained the details of this new effort.  More specifically, the opening of the Center for Economic, Commercial and Cultural Promotion in New York City will initially have its headquarters in the Consulate itself.  The center will also have an Economic Commercial Advisory Council and it will act as a Think Tank to promote the creation of ideas and initiatives in the field.

Other featured speakers included Nicasio del Castillo, a retired partner from PricewaterhouseCoopers, Gabriel T. Rozman, Vice-President of Tata Consultancy Services, Robert Weisz, real-estate developer, Renee Gonzalez, the General Manager of the New York branch of The Bank of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Carlos Fedrigotti, a Director of Axxess Partners and Mario Tucci from the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technologies.

This project, alongside the undertakings of the NYUCC, will undoubtedly promote the social, political, economic and cultural sectors of Uruguay.

 

NYUCC Flies with American Airlines -

On Friday, May 27, 2011, American Airlines and NYUCC signed an agreement that will contribute to the development of trade relations between Uruguay and the United States.
 
American Airlines, the only airline that offers nonstop flights from Montevideo to the United States, has become one of the Chamber’s newest Strategic Partners.
 
The recently signed agreement represents the achievement of one of NYUCC’s most important goals, the search and establishment of agreements that will provide its members with a wide array of various benefits.
 
This agreement seeks to promote business travel among the Chamber’s business and professional members, while using the services of a world leading airline.  American Airlines has offered to grant special benefits to such persons that travel to the United States in order to develop their business activities,

 
We celebrate the trust American Airlines has given NYUCC through the support of our efforts in finding new and better opportunities that will help increase the trade relations between Uruguay and the United States.

Consul General Adriana Lissidini Receives a Warm Farewell -

On Friday, May 13, 2011, Dr. Adriana Lissidini received the homage of the Uruguayan community in honor of her excellent work as the Consul General of Uruguay in New York.  

The event took place at the Bambú restaurant located in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  As Dr. Lissidini culminates her office as Consul General, it is evident that she was respected, supported, and admired by her fellow patriots.   Community and business leaders, alike, wished her a warm farewell and the best of luck in the next facet of her personal and professional life.

 

Throughout the event speeches were given in Dr. Lissidini’s honor, which focused on her great work in Uruguayan diplomacy and on her uniting the Uruguayan community in various productive efforts.   

Additionally, Dr. Lissidini has played an important role in the growth and development of our Chamber, The New York Uruguayan Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (NYUCC)  As she leaves New York and faces new diplomatic challenges, the NYUCC hopes to follow her steps in leaving a legacy for the Uruguayan community.
